Elon Musk’s insensitive statements and actions towards the LGBTQ+ community have sparked controversy.
Musk has been notorious for his transphobia, and statements he has made on social media and in interviews have been transphobic, particularly regarding transgender individuals and gender-affirming care. These actions have led to protests and criticism from LGBTQ+ advocacy groups.
Vivian Wilson, Elon’s transgender daughter, has said in the past that Musk was hateful toward her as a child and bullied her because of her gender identity, for being queer and feminine.
Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, now rebranded as X, there have been notable policy changes impacting LGBTQ+ users. Protections against misgendering and deadnaming transgender individuals was removed, and there was an increase in hateful conduct and bot activity.
As a result using X does not align with our ethical views. We donβt judge others that wish to remain using X as we recognise that it has over 600 million active users, and is one of the top 20 social media platforms.
